I first started drinking whisky in the Middle East in my very early 20’s. I was travelling with a work colleague, the area manager for the region, and he recommended it as a refreshing drink in the heat. We worked for Kenwood, the food mixer people - and were promoting the Chef and all the attachments to a new distributor, training their staff and I was giving some cookery demonstrations for the local press and their reader groups. We drank a whisky blend - Famous Grouse or Johnie Walker - and 7-Up. Oh dear, if you are as serious about whisky as I am now you might stop reading here. But stay with me please. I haven’t had a 7-Up straight or mixed in decades!
After a lifetime writing about and working with food I started a whisky dining club for women in Chichester on the south coast of the UK. It was Enormous fun as we set about sipping 5 drams a session, mixing and matching them to seasonal foods after a very responsible main course to line our tummies.
I now live in Orkney. We moved from the south coast of England to a group of islands off the north coast of Scotland - in search of whisky! Orkney is home to Highland Park and Scapa distilleries, with 2 more to come. I have no Whisky Women club - yet…
By subscribing to Rosemary Moon - a Whisky Woman you will be able to read and listen to my whisky reviews for free. I will aim to post content once a fortnight. I might occasionally use an archive review, so I might sometimes look just a year or two younger! All the content will be free for now so don’t expect ridiculously expensive whiskies to be reviewed. They go against my grain. If I find that we build a community of whisky and food enthusiasts and that I need a bigger whisky fund I might in the future charge for more expensive drams - but I hope not to. There is a pledge button though so if, as we get to know each other, you would be willing to support my posts please click that button. But for now and the foreseeable future all content will be free. I will aim to post whisky content on alternate Fridays.
